Family time is sooooo important! Taking time to connect and play together is key to bonding with our kids. As the saying goes, the family that plays together stays together!
Sometimes we get so caught up with our busy schedules that we don’t make time to play. Other times when we do have a free night we just don’t know what to do together! I think this post can solve one of those problems! Here are 100 awesome family night ideas. Lots of these ideas are free! Some ideas will appeal more to little kids and others to older kids, I think you will find something here for everyone.
Alright that was a big list! I want to highlight a few of my favorite ideas for you. If you are looking for something out of the box try one of these ideas!
Play glow in the dark bowling! This DIY bowling is cheaper than taking the family to a bowling ally and you get to play it outside! Crystal shares how she made these glow in the dark bowling pins on her blog Growing a Jeweled Rose. Check out her blog for directions.
Create a squirt gun painting! I don’t know any kid who would turn down this activity! Art, squirt guns, and a big mess spells fun! This idea is from Fireflies and Mudpies, you can learn more about how to set it up there. You don’t have to have an easel to do this you can hang pictures on a fence or clothes line.
There is no shame in watching a movie for family night! I know some people make up rules about no technology allowed on family night, but some nights when you are tired, it’s nice to relax together. I understand that watching a movie doesn’t always foster the most conversation or connection so I’d try to mix it up and not always choose a movie but when you do want to watch a movie together try this idea to make the night more fun and memorable.
Create a popcorn bar to enjoy while you watch. I love this ultimate popcorn bar from Happily Huggies!
Another way to make movie night more special is to make it a drive in movie! Involve the kids in creating and decorating cardboard box cars to sit in during the film. Stacy shares how to make these on her blog Not Just a Housewife.
Trouble picking a movie that the whole family will love? If there is a large age span between your kids try doing a double feature, start early with a movie for the younger kids, then when they go to bed, put on a movie geared toward the older kids. And check out this fun printable movie picker from Bren at BrenDid.com.
Now let’s talk about games! You could just pull out a board game from the closet, that would be great, nothing wrong with that, but if you want to take it to the next level try one of these ideas!
Play conversation Jenga! This idea comes from Michelle at Sunshine and Hurricanes Blog. I love this idea because it really encourages the whole family to talk and connect.
Another game gone to the next level is shaving cream twister! This is messy so be sure to wear old clothes!
